Biography

Dr. Mujtaba Ali Isani is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Program in Social Policy and Development at the Habib University in Karachi. Formerly, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Political Science at the University of Muenster. In 2016, he was DAAD Sponsored Visiting Guest Researcher at the German Jordanian University in Madaba, Jordan and in 2017, he was a DAAD sponsored Visiting Guest Researcher at the Lebanese American University in Byblos, Lebanon. His previous degrees include a PhD in Political Science at the University of Muenster, a Masters of Arts in Political Science from The Ohio State University, a Masters of Arts in International Affairs from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from Illinois Wesleyan University. Furthermore, he has had extensive training in quantitative and qualitative political methodology at prestigious institutions such as Nuffield College at Oxford University, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, the Hobby Centre of Public Policy at the University of Houston and at the ICPSR program at the University of Michigan. He has single-authored book on Muslim Public Opinion toward the International Order (Palgrave Macmillan) and a co-authored book on Muslim Attitudes toward the European Union (Routledge). His articles have been published in the Journal of Common Market StudiesPolitical Research Quarterly, International Political Science Review, Sage Research Methods Cases and European Union Politics. His research has received the Francis R. Aumann Award and the Pi Sigma Alpha Award for best paper by a graduate student and has been featured in various news outlets in Germany such as the Huffiungton Post and Die Welt. Moreover, he has co-authored blog articles on his research appearing in the Washington Post’s MonkeyCage Blog and the LSE USAPP- American Politics and Policy Blog. His work on Pakistan has appeared in the country’s top newspapers such as the Express Tribune (The International New York Times), The Dawn Newspaper and TheNews International as well as the POMEPS Studies Collection. His fieldwork has been supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), The Mershon Center for International Security Studies at The Ohio State University and The Religion and Politics Excellence Cluster at the University of Muenster.  Overall his general research interests span several subfields in political science including comparative politics, Middle East Politics, South Asian Politics, international security, public opinion, religion, gender, and political methodology. Over his career he has developed an interest in a variety of topics, which is reflected in the breadth of his research.
