Biography
Dr. Abdul Basit Memon is Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Habib University, a position he has held since September 2023. He joined Habib University in August 2015 and previously served as Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering (2015 to 2023), Program Director of Electrical & Computer Engineering (2020 to 2022), and Assistant Dean of the Dhanani School of Science and Engineering (2021 to 2022). Before joining Habib, he briefly served as Assistant Professor of Electronics Engineering at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro.
Dr. Memon earned his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from GIK Institute in 2007 and later completed his M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, M.S. in Mathematics, and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Fulbright Fellow. His doctoral thesis, supervised by Prof. Erik I. Verriest, was nominated for the Sigma Xi Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award.
His research focuses on Mathematical Systems Theory, particularly gait transitions and locomotion in robotics, robot navigation, and reinforcement learning. He is also actively involved in engineering education, faculty development, and design-thinking pedagogy. In recognition of his contributions to teaching, he received the Habib University Teaching Excellence Award in 2023.
