Biography
Dr. Muhammad Farhan has been Program Director of Habib University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering program since August 2023, overseeing both the EE and CE majors. He also served as Assistant Dean of the Dhanani School of Science and Engineering (August 2024–July 2025), leading the school across its EE, CE, CS, and ISciM programs and organizing the DSSE Undergraduate Research Symposium 2025. He has been Associate Professor since September 2022, having joined Habib as Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in February 2017; in that time he developed new EE/CS electives in Image Processing and Computer Vision, redesigned the Engineering, Innovation and Design course as a springboard to Capstone projects, and led outcome-based-education (OBE) compliance efforts for PEC accreditation.
Before Habib, Dr. Farhan was Assistant Professor and, briefly, Acting Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Karachi (2015–2017). He completed his doctoral and master’s research at the Department of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology, Finland (2008–2014), working on automated image analysis for biomedical microscopy and bioprocess modeling, and began his career as Assistant Manager at the Digital Systems Laboratory of Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) (2007–2008).
Dr. Farhan received Habib University’s inaugural Teaching Excellence Award for the School of Science and Engineering, and continues to publish actively in computer vision and applied machine learning, including recent work on object detection, agricultural pest management, and camouflaged-object detection.
