Biography
Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Makda has served as Associate Dean of Academic Systems and University Registrar at Habib University since July 2022, responsible for academic policy implementation, accreditation compliance, and data governance across the university. He previously served as Director of Undergraduate Education and Accreditation (August 2021–June 2022), and has been Associate Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering since September 2021, teaching Power Electronics and Power Electronics System Design and continuing to develop a state-of-the-art power electronics research lab. He joined Habib as Assistant Professor in August 2016, serving on the Faculty Senate and chairing the Lab Monitoring Committee.
Before Habib, Dr. Makda was Assistant Professor at PAF-KIET, Karachi (2015–2016), and completed his Ph.D. research as a Research Fellow and, later, Research Assistant with the Power Electronics Group at the University of Southern Denmark (2011–2015), where he developed and experimentally verified a fully analytical EMI filter design procedure for isolated DC-DC converters — work presented to Danish EMC industry partners Delta and Brüel & Kjær. Earlier, he was Lecturer and Laboratories In-charge at Hamdard University (2010–2011) and a visiting Lecturer at NED University (2010).
Dr. Makda’s more recent work extends into GaN-based converters and FPGA-based rapid prototyping for electric-vehicle power modules, published at IECON and COMPEL through 2024. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.
Dr. Makda supervises undergraduate capstone and research projects in power electronics and has led design/manufacturing of in-house power-electronics training equipment; his lab and design work draw on PCB design and board-level tools including Altium, Circuit Maker, and Proteus.
