Biography
Dr. Ahmad Usman has been Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Habib University since September 2024, and previously served as Program Director (Chair) of the ECE Program (August 2022–July 2023). He has developed and taught a wide range of courses including Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution; Power System Analysis; Physics of Semiconductor Devices; and Introduction to Nanotechnology, and has served on the ECE Faculty Hiring Committee.
Dr. Usman completed his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (2018), where his doctoral research investigated compact lab-on-a-chip optical sensors for post-translational modification profiling of cancer biomarker proteins, integrating functional proteomics, microfluidics, and nanofabrication. He also earned M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering (MEMS and nanoscale packaging) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (optics and microsystems) at Georgia Tech, and holds a MEMS certificate from the same institution. He worked as an instructor of record at Georgia Tech (2017–2018), teaching Fundamentals of Digital Design, and is a recipient of the US Fulbright Scholarship and the HEC HRDI-UESTPs/UETs scholarship.
Dr. Usman’s research spans silicon photonics, biosensing, power electronics, and semiconductor packaging, with recent publications in IEEE Sensors Journal and conference work on machine-learning-guided design of integrated silicon nanophotonic gratings. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Registered Engineer with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC No. ELECT-24568).
