Biography
Dr. Faisal Alvi has served as Assistant Program Director of the Computer Science Program at Habib University since January 2026, alongside his role as Assistant Professor since August 2022. At Habib, he teaches across the CS curriculum — including Natural Language Processing, Quantum Computing, Introduction to Large Language Models, and core Data Structures and Algorithms courses — and has led or served on numerous committees, including the CS Faculty Search Committee, NCEAC Accreditation Committee, and Institutional Review Board.
Before Habib, Dr. Alvi spent over two decades (2000–2022) as a Lecturer in the Information and Computer Science Department at KFUPM, teaching undergraduate courses from introductory programming through compiler construction, while completing his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Sheffield (2013–2020) on plagiarism detection and paraphrase identification. He also worked as a Co-Investigator on KFUPM-funded research into automated plagiarism detection and multimedia course development, and began his KFUPM career as a Research Assistant (1998–2000).
At Habib, Dr. Alvi has actively supervised undergraduate capstone research — including an award-winning Urdu newspaper archiving platform and hyper-localized weather forecasting work with industry partner Weather Walay — and regularly publishes with undergraduate students at CLEF and other international workshops. He received an internal Habib research grant in 2026 for an interactive quantum-computing education platform.
