Biography
Dr. Syed Arsalan Jawed is an academician, researcher, integrated circuits designer and entrepreneur with a rich experience spanning 16 years. He has worked with reputed organizations in the semiconductor industry such as ST Microelectronics, Analog Devices, King Abdul Aziz City of Science and Technology, Open-Silicon and NESCOM.
Dr. Arsalan’s main area of focus is analog mixed-signal Application-Specific-IC (ASIC) design and he has contributed high impact, published and patented R&D work in this field. Dr. Arsalan was heading the Avionics Engineering Department at KIET from 2014 till 2023, pursuing a positively entangled research and teaching departmental model, which not only successfully achieved Level-2 Washington Accord OBE Accreditation from Pakistan Engineering Council for the graduating batches but also won a significant amount of research funding from the national and international funding agencies including Ignite National Technology Fund, Higher Education Commission, National Center of AI, National Center of Robotics, Pakistan Science Foundation, King Abdul Aziz City of Science and UAE University AlAin. Dr. Arsalan research group has designed, tested and published ten ASICs in the last 10 years from academic platforms. Dr. Arsalan has also worked with strategic organization delivering ASICs for high-end integrated sensing applications.
As the founder and director of EBioSensors4Life Pvt. Ltd., a startup company working on immersive technologies for Education, Training and Health-tech, Dr. Arsalan is focusing on advanced indigenous low-cost health-tech to improve point of care diagnosis and self-testing and educational simulators with the objective to develop high impact cost-effective local electronic devices and technology.
Dr. Arsalan was involved in procuring the first commercial CAD tools license for full custom mixed signal ASIC design in Pakistan in 2012. He is also a Co-PI of the upcoming National Center of Nano Science and Technology, which would include a national level semiconductor setup involving materials, devices, circuits, systems and packaging facilities in 11 labs spread across Pakistan.
His current areas of work includes ultra low power circuit design, monolithic integration of sensors with the readout ICs, label-free electronic bio-sensor kits for point of care testing, wireless power transfer, motion platforms for gaming and cognitive therapy, electronic systems for structural health monitoring and predictive maintenance and neuromorphic hardware design with embedded intelligence in the front-end sensing node. These projects are funded by national and international partners.
