What is New Student Orientation?
The New Student Orientation is a week-long program designed to facilitate new students and their respective families in understanding the programs, culture, norms, policies, and expectations of HU. The NSO also provides an opportunity to new students and their families to ask questions, meet with the HU community, and familiarize themselves with the University campus. NSO is an integral part of new students’ onboarding and transition from High School
The NSO aims to make students’ transition to HU a smooth and joyful process. During the NSO, students will engage in a variety of interactive and exciting activities and events to help them build a better understanding of the required programs and policies during their four-year stay at Habib.
The NSO will allow you to:
- build relationships with the HU Community, including faculty, fellow students, and staff;
- experience the culture and values of HU;
- know and understand the HU philosophy, your chosen academic Major and its requirements, key policies and processes, and expectations;
- explore HU facilities, services, and resources;
- receive answers to questions you may have; and
- participate in exciting community engagement activities and events.
How will an Online Student Orientation Work?
To ensure the health and safety of our incoming students, we will not be organizing orientation activities at the campus. Our team of enthusiastic Orientation Leaders have created an exciting virtual experience to welcome the Class of 2024. New students will engage in virtual experiences through Zoom, independent work, as well as the use of various social media platforms and collaborative tools.
We may, however, invite students in small groups for a day on campus to give them a campus experience.
What will happen in the Online Student Orientation?
Online new student orientation will engage students and their parents in exciting activities to help them get ready for their new journey, as well as enhance their sense of comfort, commitment and excitement to pursue their aspirations and vision.
Online Orientation will include:
An exciting Welcoming Evening
New students and their parents/ siblings/friends can attend this via Habib Facebook or YouTube. The evening will officially welcome our new batch – class of 2024 through insightful talks by the President and Vice President to better understand our new realities and the Habib vision.
The Welcoming Evening also gives incoming students the special opportunity to meet with the President through President’s Lounge.
Interactive Zoom Sessions
These will be exciting and energizing large group and small group sessions with Orientation leaders as well as with the University leadership based on a variety of themes essential for new students to understand. These sessions will actively engage the participants in thinking, doing, collaborating and sharing.
Online Community Building Activities
You may not be able to campus but that does not mean that you cannot build connections with the HU community. Our Orientation team has designed creative experiences to help you connect with the entire HU community, so we may all warmly embrace our new community members.
Gupshup Lounges, Community Walls and various other interesting activities are just some of the platforms designed to help you connect with the community.
Thoughtful and fun filled Projects
Besides the above mentioned sessions and community building activities, you will be involved in a variety of fun filled projects in order to help you build relationships with your peers as well as learn more about HU.
Quizzes and competitions with prizes
Your OLs will also engage you in various quizzes and competitions to provide you opportunities to win prizes and enjoy the orientation process overall.
Events for Parents/Families of New Students
During the New Student Orientation, we will organize webinars for parents too. These webinars will help them get to know and understand HU, ask questions, and get ready to fully support you in your new journey.
