Biography
Bilal Raza is a labor economist specializing in family and child policy, with secondary interests in applied microeconomics. His dissertation, Essays on Childcare Economics, examines the labor market effects of subsidized childcare programs in the United States, including a job-market paper on Early Head Start that finds significant increases in maternal — and, to a lesser extent, paternal — labor supply following the programme’s staggered rollout.
Before pursuing his PhD at the University of Delaware, Bilal worked as Assistant Director in the Research Department of the State Bank of Pakistan and held research and policy roles spanning balance-of-payments analysis and fiscal determinants of inflation. His academic training includes graduate degrees from Sorbonne Paris Nord, Kingston University London, and the Lahore University of Management Sciences, reflecting a strong grounding in macroeconomics and applied econometrics. He has received the APPAM Equity and Inclusion Fellowship and the Sally Latham Outstanding Economics Research Award, and is a recipient of the US–Pakistan Knowledge Corridor PhD Scholarship.
