Biography
Dr. Newal Osman was promoted to Assistant Professor of Comparative Humanities at Habib University in 2026, having joined as Visiting Assistant Professor of History in 2023. She is a historian specializing in South Asian history, with a particular focus on colonial and post-colonial transitions in India and Pakistan, examining decolonisation, center–province relations, and the political transformation surrounding Partition.
She earned her Ph.D. in History from Trinity College, Cambridge, researching the evolution of center–province relations in the late colonial Indian state and their transformation in Pakistan, with a focus on West Punjab — work forming the basis of her forthcoming book. She was previously Assistant Professor of History at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi (2013–2022), and has held visiting fellowships at Trinity College, Cambridge (2022) and as the Rangoonwala Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford (2020).
She serves as an Associate Editor and Reviewer for the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences International Journal (LASSIJ) and provides consultancy to the Citizens’ Archive of Pakistan.
