Biography
Mirza Muhammad Amir has been Associate Professor of Communication and Design at Habib University since August 2023, teaching Design for Social Change, Publication Design, Fundamentals and Principles of Interaction Design, Designing Experiences (UX), and Typography. Before his full-time appointment, he taught as Visiting Faculty at Habib (August–December 2021), and was Assistant Professor at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture (2019–2023), where he oversaw the Interaction Design major and minor with a learner-centered, constructivist pedagogy.
Amir continues to serve as Adjunct Faculty at SZABIST (since 2008) and Visiting Faculty at IBA (since 2018), and has held academic roles at the University of Karachi (2010–2019). At Habib, he has been active in mentoring and outreach — including judging the 2024 Fintech Hackathon, serving on the CND Program’s Final Thesis Jury (2023), mentoring Invent for the Planet (2022), and delivering a January 2024 keynote at the UX Pakistan conference on “Awam, Design aur Urdu.”
Beyond academia, Amir founded Amal, a platform bridging mental health, education, and design, and Hunar Paaray, a boutique shop transforming traditional calligraphy and motifs into handmade objects. His freelance design work spans clients including Prestige Communications and The Express Tribune.
