Biography
Dr. Sahaab Bader Sheikh has been Assistant Professor of Social Development and Policy at Habib University since 2021, teaching Applied Methods in Quantitative Research, Data Analytics, Quantitative Research Methods, Pakistan and Modern South Asia, and Environmental and Natural Resource Economics. He has served as a Faculty Researcher on the Karachi Water Project since 2022 and co-founded the Data and Research (DAR) Lab at Habib in 2023 alongside Laiba Farid, Qasim Pasta, and Abdullah Siddiqui.
Dr. Sheikh holds a double bachelor’s in Economics and Management from the University of London in association with LSE, followed by an M.Sc. in Economics from LUMS. In 2011, he joined the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP) as a Research Associate on the Punjab Economic Opportunities Program, and consulted for the Punjab Skills Development Fund and the UK’s Department for International Development. He won the Fulbright Scholarship in 2014 to pursue his Ph.D. in Economics at UC Santa Barbara, researching environmental, health, and labor economics; his dissertation examined the economics of natural disasters, including their impact on health outcomes and the political economy of disaster relief.
At Habib, Dr. Sheikh has been an active contributor to program design and student research infrastructure, serving on the SDP Institutional Review Board, supervising multiple Summer Tehqiq Research Program and undergraduate thesis projects (including a Best SDP Thesis award in 2021–2022), coordinating STATA workshops through the EHSAS program, and receiving Graduate School Curation Program research grants in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
