What to Expect

  • A comfortable, supportive and friendly environment.
  • A digital verification slip after every appointment/workshop.

Workshop Policies

  • You must be on time. If you are more than ten minutes late, you will not receive a verification slip.
  • You must stay for the entire duration of the workshop in order to receive a verification slip.
  • Workshop verification is at the discretion of the instructor.

Tutoring Policies

Before your first tutoring appointment, you need to read and agree to the Writing Center policies.

  • Click here to book your appointment or use one of the designated computers in the Writing Center. Walk-ins are also welcome. For pre-scheduled appointments and walk-ins, please sign-in.
  • Allow 30 minutes for your tutoring appointment. If you would like more than 30 minutes with your Writing Tutor, please book two or more slots. Please note that you cannot book more than three back to back appointments. This is because we would like you to take the time to process the feedback given and make the necessary revisions.
  • Once you have booked an appointment, please attend it regardless of whether or not you have done the assignment, even if that means showing up just to inform your tutor that you have nothing to work on.
  • Please be on time. If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, your time slot may be given to somebody else. Or if you know you are going to be late for your appointment, please inform the Writing Center of your expected arrival.
  • If you are unable to make it for an appointment, please cancel it at least 2 hours in advance and/or reschedule it for another time.
  • You may also just walk in for an appointment. If a Writing Tutor is free, they’ll be happy to see you, or you may be asked to book an appointment for a later time or date.
  • You may bring digital/hard copies of your assignment, but please do not email it to the tutor unless otherwise specified.
  • Your tutor will offer you feedback on your assignment, and help you identify and address patterns of error. However, please remember that your tutor is not your editor or an expert in the content of your courses.
  • Please make an appointment at the EHSAS center with a Peer Tutor if you have questions about the content of your courses.
  • Your tutor may end the appointment early if s/he feels that you are being uncooperative or disrespectful. You will be given a warning first, and if there is no change, you may be asked to leave.
  • Please fill in the evaluation form at the end of your tutoring session. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve the work we do.

Ultimately, you are responsible for improving and proofreading your work. Visiting a tutor cannot guarantee higher grades or acceptance into a particular program, school, or job, nor is the Writing Center liable for these things. However, regularly visiting the Writing Center for tutoring sessions and workshops will indeed have a positive impact on your writing and, in turn, your academic career.
