This course introduces students to devised theatre on the topic of ‘Belonging’. What is ‘belonging’ or the feeling of ‘being at home’? When do we feel it?
The students will work as an ensemble in the entirety of the course. In the research part of the course, students will conduct artistic research, the findings of which will inform their theatrical improvisations using postmodern theatre modalities, specifically ‘Viewpoints’ by the SITI Company and ‘Moment Work’ by Tectonic Theatre Project. We would also be using understanding the structure of narrative through studying traditional theatre and using Konstantin Stanislavski’s “System”.
The course aims to introduce students to the creation of theatrical performances specifically in non-theatrical spaces with the inclusion of audience immersion and interactivity.
In the end, students will create an hour-long immersive and interactive devised theatre performance as a class which will be open for an audience.
