This is a course in policy analysis where we will learn about structuring and analyzing policy problems, identifying and evaluating policy alternatives, and implementing and evaluating interventions to elevate the human condition. Policy analysis is problem-centered and action-oriented, and prescriptive in its orientation.

This course is multidisciplinary in nature. We draw on public economics, finance, political science, management sciences, defense studies, public administration, systems analysis, political economy, and environmental economics to explore policy analysis.

This course is interdisciplinary in nature, given the complexity of public policy challenges, and the nature of policy analysis. Students will explore how multiple tools across disciplines can be used to form a cogent interdisciplinary policy analysis project.

The course builds upon the foundations of the SDP program and strengthens the quantitative, analytic, and prescriptive approaches to public policy for social development.
