This course provides an experiential introduction to Systems Engineering (SE) and Project Management (PM) through active participation in real world, industry connected sub-projects. Students work under the supervision of professionally trained staff, ensuring immersion in authentic workflows, tools, and project culture from the outset.nnLearning SE is understood as a three tier process: building conceptual understanding through foundational instruction and worked examples; applying the SE process on a low-risk, real-world project; and applying it on a high-risk, real-world project. This course covers the first two levels, equipping students with the grounding needed for higher stakes project work in the following semester.nnCore SE skills practiced in this course include requirements writing, context diagrams, system decomposition, concept selection, technical requirements derivation, system analysis, and V&V planning. In parallel, students develop PM competencies through the adoption of the GTD workflow, traditional project planning and reporting, risk management, and Agile practices.nnAssessment reflects both effort and professional practice, and includes fortnightly execution assessments of live project baselines, evaluation of project deliverables, quizzes to test skills, and two formal project presentations.
