Building on the foundations laid in Social Theory I, this course will explore the development of gender studies and queer theory from a foundation of feminist theory with an eye towards using these theories together with feminist and queer methodologies in future (read: capstone) research). This course will introduce students to several key texts in feminist discourse in order to familiarize students with arguments that began generating queer theorization in the 1990s. We will then restate these debates within global south discourse in order to afford students opportunities to engage deeply with contemporary currents in theorizing about South Asia, providing both a framework for understanding its history and development as well as a forum for students to practice its application.
