Logic is fundamental to the way humans communicate. Our public debates and private reasoning are shaped by logical principles, even though most of us would struggle to spell them out. ‘Logical Problem Solving’ will teach you the essential elements of logic and critical thinking. In an increasingly mechanized world, the ability to handle abstractions and apply deductive reasoning-the application ofnsystematic methods to infer new results from known premises-is crucial. Application of this form of thought leads one to be able to check whether a stated claim can be deduced from general laws or accepted truths. This course introduces basic methods for representing and assessing the logical formnof various arguments at an undergraduate level. Students will learn how to analyze and evaluate different types of arguments and how to avoid common mistakes in reasoning.
