This week's #AcademicSpotlight features Muhammad Zulqurnain-ul-Haq Qazi, SDP Lecturer, alongside Hiba Shoaib and Muhammad Ashar Khan, SDP students from Class of 2022.
Their research on 'Anti-encroachment and Urban Development in Karachi: Human Rights Approach to Project Planning for Inclusive Policy Networks', was accepted for a presentation at a Conference convened by the Government Outcomes Lab at @oxford_uni.
Muhammad Zulqurnain-ul-Haq Qazi was invited to join a panel talk to share the findings of their research under the thematic area of 'Deep Dive: Outcomes for Institutional Reforms”.
The study explores the exclusionary practices of forced evictions that are conducted under the label of urban development, often compromising marginalized communities’ right to the city. The paper argues that collaborative governance and developmental gains require redrawing of network boundaries to include unrepresented communities in the process of development to attain intended social outcomes.
This research was conducted as part of the SDP Independent Study designed on the Political Economy of Karachi.
