Achieving Graduate School Excellence: Ivy League Placements

Habib University alumni are well-prepared to excel at top-tier institutions worldwide and successfully navigate the competitive admission process. Many of our graduates have secured places in world-renowned universities, including Oxford, Columbia University, MIT, UCL, and Dartmouth. The Class of 2024 has continued this tradition of excellence, with several graduates securing spots in top-tier graduate schools worldwide.

Our 2024 Social Development and Policy graduates, Hafsa Amir and Washain Kalat, are both set to pursue Master of Divinity degrees at Harvard University. Notably, Hafsa was a HU TOPS scholar and also received acceptance from the University of Chicago. She credits Habib University’s Graduate School Curation Program (GSCP) for her success, emphasizing how it assisted her in finding the right program, securing funding, and providing crucial support. 

Qaima Hossain, a Comparative Humanities graduate and valedictorian of the Class of 2024, has been accepted into Stanford University’s Ph.D. program in Comparative Literature immediately following her undergraduate studies.Throughout her academic journey, she received multiple honors, including recognition on the Dean’s List and President’s List. Her thesis project titled “Spread Your Hem; Gather Love As It Falls: A Journey Guided by Shah Jo Risalo,” won her the Best Thesis Award at Habib University. Another CH 2024 alumna, Fareha Siddiqui has also secured a spot in Harvard’s Master of Divinity program.

Our 2024 BS Computer Science graduate, Laiba Qureshi has secured admission for MS Computer Science at Illinois Institute of Technology and George Washington University, receiving a 50% scholarship. 

As these students transition to new opportunities, our previous graduates have recently completed their graduate studies at top tier institutions, such as Harvard and Dartmouth.  Ana Tawfiq Husain, an SDP 2020 graduate, completed her MA in International Relations at King’s College London in 2021. She has since returned as a Dean’s Fellow and lecturer for the SDP program at Habib University.

An SDP alumna from the Class of 2019, Nida Zehra Hadi recently completed her MA in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College, USA. She also worked as a Graduate Assistant in Marketing at Dartmouth, gaining valuable experience while pursuing her academic and professional goals.

Another SDP 2019 alumna and a Fulbright Scholar, Uswa Memon graduated from Michigan State University in 2023 with a Master’s in Social Work, specializing in Organization and Community Leadership. She is currently a Dean Fellow at Habib University.

Undergraduate Research: Innovating for a Sustainable Future

Our undergraduate programs in Pakistan encourage students to explore global challenges, develop impactful solutions, and collaborate with individuals across diverse fields.

Our students Nimra Sohail and Areeb Adnan Khan, Computer Engineering students from the Class of 2024, recently presented their project IntellicropPK at COP28 UAE. Their project features a sustainable AI-driven solution designed to support small-scale farmers. Watch the full video here.

Another 2024 alumnus, Syed Jahania Shah has been honored with the Best Undergraduate Research Achievement Award in Electrical Engineering. This award recognizes his authorship and co-authorship of seven papers accepted and published in IEEE conferences, highlighting his significant contributions to the field.

Our EE 2023 alum, Muhammad Hasham Qazi published a paper titled “Developing a VR-based Training Platform for Emergency Fire-Handling Services Using Unity 3D” in the IEEE journal. His project aims to improve firefighter training using VR technology, reflecting the strong research culture at Habib University.

Beyond Graduation: Career Success Stories

Apart from graduate school placements, the Class of 2024 and previous cohorts have also seen significant success in the job market. Graduates have secured positions with top employers such as Unilever, UNDP, Engro, GSK, P&G, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Stellic.

Daniyal Lightwala, our 2024 Electrical Engineering graduate, has started his career as a Trainee Engineer at K-Electric, where he can apply his knowledge directly to the energy sector. Another 2024 alumna in Computer Science, Dania Salman has secured a position as Software Engineer at D-Global, where she will be working on innovative projects that push the boundaries of technology to transform financial management.

Meanwhile, our previous graduates have chosen diverse career paths and continue to excel in their fields. Hashim Abbas Rizvi, a BS Electrical Engineering graduate from 2021, has achieved significant recognition as a Senior CX Designer at UBL. His exceptional work in enhancing customer experience earned him the Outstanding Performance Award from UBL’s CEO, Jawaid Iqbal.

Another EE alum from the Class of 2020, Areej Al Medinah is applying her expertise in the technology industry, working as a Product Manager at SadaPay which is a prominent Pakistan-based fintech company.

Shaping the World: Alumni Success Stories

With 900+ alumni spread across the globe, Habib University graduates are driving positive change to shape a better future.

Habib University’s Team PureFlow earned the second runner-up spot at the Invent for the Planet (IFTP) 2024 International Finals, held at ENSAM in Aix-en-Provence, France. Their innovative water sustainability solution highlights the exceptional talent nurtured at Habib University, placing them among the top global teams advancing eco-friendly innovations.

Ufaq Asad, our 2023 graduate in Communication and Design, won the Best Debut Director award at the I Am Tomorrow International Film Festival 2023 in Brussels for her documentary “Dou Kut Chai.” Selected for Paigaam-e-Cinema and the Women International Film Festival, her story inspires aspiring women filmmakers.

Arhum Ishtiaq, our CS alum from the Class of 2022, co-founded ConnectHear, was recognized as Pride of Pakistan by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). Recognized by the Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF), ConnectHear is Pakistan’s first and largest tech startup offering sign-language interpretation services and advocates for marginalized communities.

Sarfaraz Hussain and Furqan Karim, both from the Class of 2020, launched YPay, a platform designed to simplify investments. Despite being in its pilot phase, YPay secured an initial $2 million investment, reflecting its innovative approach and promising potential in Pakistan’s financial sector.

HERe, launched by Laiba Farid, our SDP alumna from the Class of 2023, and her team, aims to connect and uplift women professionals. Mentored by Saleena Beg of HBL, HERe fosters a supportive community where female professionals can facilitate each other. Through events like HERe Mixer 1 and Mixer 2, the platform provides mentorship, networking, and support for professional development.
