Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah Offers Full Support for Habib University Expansion & Scholarships

Karachi, September 27, 2016: Habib University on Tuesday hosted the Government of Sindh’s Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, for an official visit of the University. He was joined by Mr. Hiroyuki Fukui, Managing Officer, Toyota Motor Corporation.

Mr. Shah and Mr. Fukui were given a brief presentation by HU President Mr. Wasif Rizvi on the status of higher education in Pakistan, the history of the HU project, and how the University is making an impact and shaping futures for hundreds of young men and women.

Later, they were taken on a guided tour of the campus by Mr. Rizvi, where they were introduced to the various cutting-edge facilities provided at Habib University. After the tour concluded, Mr. Shah and Mr. Fukui jointly shared the honor of inaugurating the modern and fully-equipped Power Laboratory at HU.

Following the inauguration, the two dignitaries were taken to the University’s purpose-built Auditorium as chief guests for an award ceremony for outstanding HU students who have been provided 100% scholarships under the Talent Outreach Promotion & Support Program (HU TOPS).

HU TOPS is a mentorship and scholarship program launched by Habib University exclusively for students studying under local examination boards (Board of Intermediate Education and Federal Board). Under the Program, meritorious students are offered exclusive training after which they can avail a full tuition fee waiver if they qualify the HU Entrance Examination.

During his introductory remarks at the ceremony, HU President Mr. Wasif Rizvi revealed that Mr. Shah had been one of the earliest supporters of Habib University and that his support had been instrumental in getting the University’s charter approved by the Sindh Assembly.

During his own remarks, Mr. Shah said:

I am glad that I supported Habib University back in 2012, because now that I have visited the campus and seen the facilities, I am sure that the students who will pass out from Habib University will contribute to the development of Pakistan.

Mr. Shah was also generous to offer his own support as well as the backing of the Government of Sindh in any expansion projects that HU might wish to undertake in the future. Commenting on the HU TOPS scholarship program, he also promised to look into whether the provincial Education Department could “chip in” to increase the number of scholarships provided.

Mr. Shah and Mr. Fukui were joined by Mr. Rafiq M. Habib, the Chancellor of Habib University, and Mr. Ali S. Habib, Chairman of Indus Motor Company and Member of the HU Board of Governors, in handing out special awards to the most outstanding students selected to study at Habib under the HU TOPS program.
