Project Title
AI-Based Teaching Platform for Primary Education
Description
Large Language Models (LLMs) have strong potential in education but face two major limitations: mathematical hallucinations and lack of proper teaching alignment. When AI tutors provide direct answers, students may not develop problem-solving skills. A Socratic tutoring approach helps by guiding learners through hints and questions instead of giving immediate solutions, but generative models may still produce incorrect reasoning. To address this, the paper introduces SocraticTutorPK, an LLM-based tutor for Grade 5 mathematics. The system combines Socratic pedagogy, symbolic mathematical verification, and human preference alignment. The Microsoft Phi-4 model is fine-tuned on a curated dataset of Socratic dialogues, with a mathematical verifier and teacher-student feedback applied to improve accuracy and teaching quality.
