KARACHI, April 2016: Habib University and Pitzer College, California, USA, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a collaborative partnership program covering several activities.
Pitzer College is a top-ranked liberal arts college in the United States, offering an academically rigorous interdisciplinary education with a strong commitment to the values of a residential education community. Pitzer College’s mission emphasizes social justice, intercultural understanding and environmental sensitivity, and encourages independent work and the development of a critical approach to the traditional disciplines. It is a member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions.
The agreement signed by Habib and Pitzer includes a provision for ‘Faculty Exchange and Collaboration’, enabling faculty from both institutions to participate in mutually agreed-upon projects and exchange programs, among other things. The MoU also features Study Abroad programs for both Habib and Pitzer students, with Pitzer and Habib ensuring a balance of exchange with maximum of three students per semester hosted at each institution. Student collaborations are also set to take place, through which Pitzer and Habib students can conduct virtual conferences as well as work together on projects, guest lectures and discussions through the HU Global Classroom Connect series. Furthermore, Pitzer and Habib will hold biannual conferences to present papers on the collaborative activities and their outcomes, which will consequently be published in a report.
The MoU has been signed on behalf of Habib University by Mr. Wasif Rizvi, President, and Ms. Tatheer Hamdani, Director of Global Engagement. From Pitzer College, the signatories are Dr. Nigel Boyle, Interim Dean of Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Michael Ballagh, Associate Vice President, Study Abroad and International Programs.
Study Abroad with University of Michigan
A Student Hosting Agreement was signed by Habib University and the University of Michigan (U-M), College of Literature, Science and the Arts, on April 13, further strengthening Habib’s ties with global academic institutions. Under the agreement, both academic institutions are expected to build scholarly ties, facilitate academic cooperation, and promote mutual understanding. The University of Michigan is one of the most highly ranked public institutions and one of the foremost research universities in the US.
The Student Hosting Agreement allows Habib University students the opportunity to be engaged in undergraduate course of study at U-M, through a rigorous selection process.
The Agreement has been signed by University of Michigan’s Dr. James Paul Holloway, Vice Provost of Global and Engaged Education and Dr. James Penner-Hahn, Associate Dean, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. For Habib University, the Agreement has been signed by Mr. Wasif Rizvi, President, and Ms. Tatheer Hamdani, Director of Global Engagement.
