On 19th October 2024, Habib University opened its doors to prospective students, and their parents and counselors, offering a comprehensive insight into its distinctive, contextual, and inspiring undergraduate intellectual experience. Hosted by the Office of Student Recruitment and Admissions, the event aimed to highlight the University’s interdisciplinary programs, student life, and the vast global opportunities available for incoming students.
Program-Specific Briefings: A Deep Dive into Our Majors
The admissions team hosted program-specific briefings for each of Habib University’s six undergraduate programs, and the overarching liberal arts and sciences model including the Liberal Core and minors. Participants were introduced to the university’s distinctive programs including Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Social Development and Policy, Communication and Design, Comparative Humanities, and Computer Engineering.
The students and faculty members representing the programs shared detailed information about the academic experiences within the Dhanani School of Science and Engineering (DSSE) and the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (AHSS). They emphasized how each program integrates contextual knowledge and real-world experiences, enhancing the learning environment – equipping students to address complex challenges.
The Interdisciplinary Approach of the Habib Liberal Core
At the Open House, Hazeera Muhammad Hashim Khatri and Muhammad Umer Siddiqui (CS 2027) presented the Habib Liberal Core and minors to prospective students. The Liberal Core comprises ten courses across seven forms of thought which, along with the 14 minors, emphasize on the interdisciplinary nature of the learning experience at Habib University.
The event welcomed over 40 secondary schools and colleges, including Alpha College, Nixor College, Karachi Grammar School, Aga Khan Girls and Boys Schools, DJ Sindh Govt. Science College, Nasra Public School, and Government Degree College Women, among many others.
GSCP and CCP: Career Guidance and Graduate School Preparation
The Open House highlighted Habib University’s commitment to student success through the Graduate School Curation Program (GSCP) and the Career Curation Program (CCP). Participants learned how these initiatives help students prepare for a rapidly evolving job market while fostering skills to positively impact society.
The GSCP is designed to support students throughout their undergraduate research experiences. It encourages collaboration with faculty on various projects, helping students enhance their research skills and build strong portfolios for postgraduate opportunities.
In contrast, CCP is a comprehensive four-year career development program that assists students in thoughtfully crafting their career paths. Together, these programs equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly changing job market and to make a meaningful impact on society.
HU TOPS and Scholarships: Financial Support for Students
At the Open House 2024, Habib University proudly presented its generous scholarship offerings, including the flagship HU TOPS program, which supports top-performing intermediate students and aims to foster academic excellence and leadership potential.
Habib University’s Talent Outreach, Promotion, and Support Program (HU TOPS) offers 100% scholarships to meritorious students from all Boards of Intermediate Education, including the Federal Board (FB) and Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB).
The representatives also provided insights into various other scholarships and financial aid options available, highlighting Habib University’s commitment to providing quality education for all meritorious students from diverse backgrounds.
Student Life Activities: A Vibrant Campus Culture
The participating students experienced a glimpse of campus life through a variety of engaging student life activities designed to promote wellness, community engagement, and creative expression. They explored wellness programs, arts and culture activities, and various food stalls, highlighting the lively and engaging student life at Habib University.
The HU Wellness initiatives emphasized the importance of mental and physical well-being. The Serve Club at Habib University organized a stall for the Pinktober event in collaboration with Pink Ribbon, featuring informative displays aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer.
Additionally, activities like “Express, Create, Heal” encouraged students to use creative expression as a therapeutic outlet. The “Talk to Us” initiative offered a supportive space for students to navigate life’s challenges, creating a sense of community encouraged at the University.
