Habib University’s faculty member and Interim Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), Dr. Asif Aslam Farrukhi, made an appearance at the Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College on January 10, 2016.
Asked to be the opening speaker, he introduced the master orator, Mr. Zia Mohyeddin on behalf of the Literary and Debating Society of Liaquat National University.
“His work has immense cultural and literary standing, his command over language, be it Urdu, English or Punjabi is remarkable”, said Dr. Asif for Zia Mohyeddin.
Starting off the event with a humble recital of some letters of Mirza Ghalib, Zia Mohyeddin commented on the master poet’s ability to make others laugh. He also recited some prose of Zaheer Dehlavi, Patras Bukhari and other Urdu classics.
Adding to the mix in the enchanting evening were translations of German writer, Rainer Maria Rilke, for whom Zia Mohyeddin recited:

The Liaquat National University’s Literary and Debating Society members concluded the event with bouquets of flowers presented to the speakers.
