Noting the growing tensions between India and Pakistan, uncertainty and fear gripping the nation as talk of an ensuing conflict continues in the media, President Wasif Rizvi shares a heartfelt message addressing the Habib University community, assuring them to act with “reason,” “compassion,” and “ethical courage” which will be guiding lights through these precarious times.
Read President Wasif Rizvi’s message to the Habib University community below:
“Dear Habib Community,
I write to you today with concern, as we witness a troubling escalation of violence unfolding across our region. The growing tensions between India and Pakistan are not just alarming—they are dangerous, particularly for two nuclear-armed neighbors whose history and geography bind them far more intimately than the narratives of enmity would have us believe.
Amid this volatility, we are seeing distressing images and reports: civilians caught in conflict, planes downed, and the disturbing trivialization of war and death on social media platforms. This is not a time for jingoism, bravado, or the empty, toxic theatrics of macho nationalism. It is a time for restraint, for clarity, for peace, and for deep reflection.
At Habib University, we have always aspired to be a community of thoughtful, responsible individuals—people who do not merely react to the world, but who seek to transform it with reason, compassion, and ethical courage. I urge each of you to uphold these values now more than ever. Be measured in your speech, intentional in your actions, and mindful of the impact of your words online. Let us model what it means to be agents of calm and wisdom in an era of digital frenzy and provocation.
To ensure the safety and convenience of our community, we are temporarily reverting to our established COVID-era protocol. Our academic leadership is working closely with faculty to ensure a smooth transition to online teaching and learning, including the management of final year projects.
Let us all pray and work for peace—and carry forward the dignity and ethical clarity that define our institution.”
Warmly,
Wasif A. Rizvi
President
Habib University
