Final Year Project
Project Title
Naseeb ka Maal: Studying the Supply and Sale of Secondhand Apparel in Karachi
Description
The research explores the role of landa bazaars in Karachi within the second-hand clothing supply chain, connecting global imports to local retail. Using ethnographic field visits and interviews with market vendors, it examines how used garments are imported, inspected, sorted, and sold. The study finds that physical stores view online sellers as collaborators rather than competitors and adapt by learning from online trends. The research highlights how landa bazaars support urban livelihoods while facilitating the local revaluation of global textile waste. Additionally, it provides insights to improve current reuse practices and promote circular economy initiatives, fostering sustainable consumption and more effective management of textile resources in Pakistan.
