Final Year Project

Project Title

Developing a Robust Vision System for Autonomous Tow Truck Navigation

Description

The primary objective of this project was to transform Toyota Indus Motor Company’s (IMC) in-house tow trucks into fully autonomous vehicles, enhancing logistical efficiency by enabling them to transport vehicle components from various workshops to the main assembly point independently. Our team focused on designing a robust vision system that powers the autonomous software stack, leveraging cameras and LiDAR sensors for obstacle detection, avoidance, and improved localization, ensuring safe navigation and heightened environmental awareness. Key outcomes of this initiative include a successful retrofit of an IMC tow truck with an autonomous system capable of self-navigation and dynamic path planning. This project not only optimizes IMC’s operational workflow but also represents a significant step forward for industrial automation in Pakistan.
