Project Title
Foreign Aid Retrenchment and Social Capital: Access to Higher Education for Pakistani Students
Description
The purpose of this research is to examine how the retrenchment of foreign aid for higher education in Pakistan is shaping access, equity, and opportunity through the lens of social capital. As major international donors, including USAID, suspend and reduce their funding due to a shift in geopolitical priorities, Pakistani institutions face increasing constraints in sustaining quality and accessibility to education. This research explores how students mobilize their social capital to navigate the challenges of reduced support. A mixed-methods design integrates a student survey across public and private universities, semi-structured interviews (8-10) with professionals, and document analysis of HEC reports and donor policies. The findings of this research aim to contribute to conversations on aid dependency and local capacity-building.
