Final Year Project

Project Title

Artificial Intelligence and the Philosophy of the Tragic

Description

Tragedy’s philosophy investigates the inherent limits of human agency by modeling the conflict between rational, coherent action and ineluctable counter-forces. Observing contemporary art forms, including AI-generated artworks, as a narrative site where humanity represents its own self-inflicted stiflement, this thesis reflects upon Artificial Intelligence (AI) functioning as a tragic mechanism that materializes ancient archetypes of fate and hamartia within a global technological paradigm. By evaluating thematic expressions of freedom, fated necessity, and irony, this thesis assesses how AI induces an ontological deadlock: a collision between the rhythmic “measure of life” and the optimizing “measure of procedure,” revealing how AI is reorienting the human subject within a rapidly developing world where creative and intellectual values are being fundamentally reshaped.
