Project Title

Heideggerian Criticisms of Mental Healthcare

Description

My thesis will combine many strands of philosophical thought, mainly Heidegger's and Foucault’s theories, and evaluate existing ethical foundations for good conduct in healthcare. This will then be compared to the reality of how it is delivered to the masses in Pakistan, along with other developing countries. Phenomenology has great potential for implementation in the public health system, and integrating a human-centered model of care in medical discourses would help to bring about a positive change in societies like ours. I particularly aim to criticize biomedical models of treating mental health problems through the comparison of objective data and lived experience, which is not given as much weight in a diagnostic endeavor.
