A Public Food Space Installation

Description

This installation is inspired by women in Karachi whose main leisure activities often include shopping and eating street food. In shopping areas, women frequently stop at stalls selling Pani Puri or juices. However, these spaces are rarely designed for them to stay comfortably. Most women quickly buy food and leave instead of sitting. This becomes more difficult for mothers who carry babies and shopping bags at the same time, leaving little opportunity to rest or relax. My installation reimagines a public food space from a woman’s perspective without excluding men. It explores how thoughtful design, i.e., comfortable seating, hygienic counters, and healthy food options, can create a space where women feel welcome to rest and feel considered in public environments.
