Understanding State-sanctioned Genocidal Rapes of 1971: A Historical and Ontological Study
Description
This thesis is an investigation of state-sanctioned genocidal rape by militaries, specifically, the rationale behind its use in warfare and conflicts. By situating this theoretical and historical exploration in South Asia, the following thesis is an attempt to answer the question of: Why did the West Pakistan military carry out genocidal rapes during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War? This paper will utilize critical postcolonial theory and queer theory to approach the aforementioned topic. I will first trace the genealogy of the West Pakistani military from colonial times to 1971, and consult archival material and through critical discourse analysis, I will analyze and explain the political ontology that undergirds the sovereign power of the West Pakistan military that underpin the use of genocidal rape.
