Final Year Project

Project Title

Automated Tank Handover Inspection Utilizing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for Enhanced Precision and Efficiency

Description

Engro Polymers and Chemicals LTD faces significant downtime during tank inspections due to scaffold setup for cleaning and examining elevated tank walls (19 meters high). The conventional method, involving manual scaffolding, consumes 88% of the total inspection time. Our solution uses a UAV with interchangeable payloads: a power brush for cleaning and an EMAT for inspection. The UAV autonomously cleans by ascending tank walls, stabilizing against dynamic forces from the rotating brush. The core innovation lies in control algorithms that enable effective cleaning without introducing extra degrees of freedom or major UAV structural changes. This approach positions our capstone project at the forefront of innovation, streamlining inspections while minimizing downtime.
