Project Title

The Art of Flesh and Poetics: Theorizing the Threshold of Form Flesh, Form and the Art of Poetics: Invoking Heidegger’s Clearing Through the Grotesque Image and T.S. Eliot

Description

Why is form such a significant and prominent part of our lives, and what are the ways in which it constitutes a threshold? How can we gain access to this threshold in ways that are meaningful? I posit two points of entry into this threshold of form: first, through the sphere of art, and more specifically horror, and secondly, through the sphere of poetry, to discuss the perceived and unperceivable breakdown and regeneration of meaning in our increasingly nihilist world. I will also be using Martin Heidegger’s and Mikhail Bakhtin’s philosophical and literary frameworks to bridge these points of entry through each other.
