Violence in the Anthropocene: Thinking with Technology

Description

This paper argues that the Industrial Revolution's mechanization and technology have played a significant role in human activities' destructive impact on the planet and other species. The author draws on Heidegger's critique of Western metaphysics, stating that technology reveals a relationship between humans and the natural world that impacts our understanding of every being's value. Through an analysis of Heidegger's On the Question Concerning Technology and Amitav Ghosh's The Nutmeg's Curse, the paper examines technology's essence and its impact on the planet. The author contends that the Anthropocene contains inherent violence, which is accelerated by the introduction of new technological orders. The paper concludes by arguing that a deeper comprehension of technology is critical to address violence and climate change issues in the Anthropocene.
