Project Title

Children’s Development

Description

Parenting styles play a crucial role in shaping children's personalities and significantly impacting their behavioral conduct. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify the cultural differences in Pakistani parenting styles and examine the applicability of four parenting approaches proposed by Diana Baumrind (1967 and 1991) within the context of Pakistan. The study also takes into consideration external factors that influence parenting styles, such as parental education and income, cultural patterns, and maternal engagement. The findings suggest that several external factors, including cultural values, living in a joint family setup, and parental education and income, have a significant influence on the Pakistani parenting style. Moreover, while authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles are commonly observed among Pakistani parents, there is no clear-cut linear pattern of parenting style practice in Pakistan.
