Final Year Project

Project Title

Karachi as a Post-Cosmopolitan City

Description

My final year project brings my interests in Urbanism, Journalism and Photography together as I try to do a bottom-up investigation of Karachi as a post-cosmopolitan city. The deliverables are an academic research paper that uses theory, peoples’ first-hand experiences and field research to explain how and why the city became post-cosmopolitan. Other deliverables are an interactive photo-story book documenting the lives of people who immigrated to Karachi through photos, audio and written text; a compilation of the intangible heritage, i.e. the stories and fables that people from different cultures in Karachi have in the form of placards; and stylized postcards that capture the essence of Karachi as a violent but lively city.
