Final Year Project
Project Title
Shape of Water
Description
Karachi City, my hometown, is a city of over 15 million. Unplanned, chaotic, with stubborn citizens and civic issues at all levels, Karachi is unfortunately the sixth most water scarce city in the world. Water management issues are a bigger concern than water supply, since 35-40% of the water is lost, stolen or unaccounted for between the main distribution line and the residents. With a multidisciplinary team, we conducted field research to understand the social, economic and political issues as well as research technological feasibility of water management interventions through the world. Shape of Water is currently developing a scalable, automated machine learning algorithm to map the underground water utility infrastructure on the maps of Karachi through the Ground Penetrating Radar. The venture won the Resolution Project Social Venture Challenge at the One Young World Summit in London, 2019. (Group Project-Interdisciplinary)
