Project Title

COVID-19: Higher Education challenges in Karachi

Description

In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, educational institutions across the globe have shifted to online learning. This report presents research on the challenges faced by undergraduate students studying in private universities in Karachi, along with their responses to these unprecedented times. This research adopted a qualitative research design. In order to obtain data and in-depth information, existing literature was reviewed and primary research was conducted. Semi-structured interviews were employed for data collection and MAXQDA was utilized for data analysis. The theoretical framework in this study consists of critical theory on the social inequalities reinforced and promoted by powerful institutions such as universities. This allowed for a comparison on the challenges experienced by private university students and others, and whether or not social inequality aggravated them.
