Final Year Project

Project Title

What are the cultural implications and patterns of in-law care amongst married women in Karachi living with the family of the husband?

Description

The following research questions were addressed in my thesis: a) What are the cultural implications for a woman in taking care of the parents of her spouse? b) What is the type of care (personal health, household chores, emotional) the woman is the most engaged in with her in-laws? c) How much of this labor is distributed with the husband? d) How satisfied is the woman with her living situation? The purpose of this thesis is to start a new discourse about gendered forced labor and to provide women with the freedom to choose the life they want to live.
