Shaping Futures, Crafting Careers Seminar hosted at Habib University


Karachi, Pakistan, June 12, 2014: Habib University hosted an event titled “Shaping Futures, Crafting Careers Seminar” today at its award winning campus. The well-attended event explored the professional landscape in Pakistan and the value of an interdisciplinary liberal arts educational experience for successful careers in the job market.

The event commenced with panel discussions and talks delivered by industry leaders and specialists from various fields. These included the CEO of Indus Motors Mr. Pervaiz Ghais, Mr. Zaeem Arshad who is Division Head of Rapid Compute, a pioneer in cloud computing in Pakistan, the Editor of Express Tribune Mr. Kamal Siddiqui, and CEO and founder of Technologix Mr Salman Akhtar. The panelists gave the admitted and potential students of Habib University, their parents and school counselors a clear picture about the career prospects of today and tomorrow.

The audience was also given insights in what employers all across the job market look for in a potential employee and how Habib University’s liberal core oriented programs could help students achieve greater professional success. According to the panelists, the focus of the job market is rapidly shifting to students who are critical thinkers and are creative enough to adapt to multiple scenarios and circumstances. An educational experience revolving around a liberal core is hence essential for success today. The guests were able to interact with the panelists and Habib University’s faculty through a question and answer session which touch upon several related areas. The audience, especially students, participated with great enthusiasm and showed deep interest in the discussions taking place.

The panel discussion were followed by breakout sessions for discussions on opportunities and trends in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, communication studies, media, social development and policy. These fields are covered by Habib University’s academic offerings and the sessions were hosted by Habib University’s professors. The program concluded with a tour of the campus which has won accolades for its student friendly and interactive design.
