On May 30th 2024, Habib University celebrated its cherished annual event, Awards’ Night 2024, recognizing the dedication and outstanding performance of the students and faculty. The event featured Program Awards, HUSG and Commencement Awards, the President’s Medal, and Teaching Awards, honoring outstanding contributions to academic and pedagogical excellence at the University.
At Habib University, we curate an intellectual undergraduate learning experience which is reflected in the exceptional achievements of our students. Awards Night reflects our commitment to educational excellence, driven by a comprehensive curriculum, impactful undergraduate research, and robust student support programs.
The evening began with a sense of anticipation as guests and the graduating Class of 2024 arrived. The ceremony officially commenced with opening remarks by the MoCs Syed Muhammad Hunain Abbas Zaidi (CS, 2026) and Maham Baqir (CH, 2026). This was followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran.
In keeping with tradition, Yousuf Kerai, Associate Professor of Practice in Comparative Humanities, led the HU Orchestra in a captivating performance on stage. This was followed by a video presentation that took the audience on a journey through the four years of the graduating Class of 2024, highlighting their achievements and cherished memories on campus.
Following this, esteemed faculty members, including Dr. Noman Naqvi, Associate Professor CH, and Dr. Shah Jamal Alam, Interim Associate Dean & Associate Professor DSSE, shared their reflections and words of advice for the graduating batch of 2024. Dr. Shah Jamal emphasized the importance of maintaining high educational standards for students, advising the graduates, “Pursue your aspirations wherever they may lead, but always remember the thread that keeps you connected to what truly matters. For you, that thread is Yohsin.”
In addition to the faculty’s contributions, the event offered a platform for students to share their heartfelt anecdotes and memorable experiences with the audience. Rihha Rehmatullah, an SDP graduate, spoke on behalf of the Class of 2024, recounting her exciting journey at Habib University. The students also used the platform to express solidarity with the people of Palestine through a moving poetry recitation in their honor.
The Awards Ceremony opened with an address by Dr. Aamir Hasan, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Habib University, and a welcome address from Wasif Rizvi, President Habib University. Dr. Aamir Hasan commended the graduating class, stating, “To the graduating class, you remained steadfast, you believed in yourself and battled bravely. You took bold stances, challenged us on many occasions, and fought very hard. While you stay tough, please remember to be kind to yourself.”
Subsequently, each Program Director presented awards recognizing outstanding performances in final year projects for the relevant programs. The HUSG Awards celebrated student leadership and excellence in service, technology, design, and advocacy. These awards were presented by Vice President Student Success at Habib University, Yasmeen Bano, Interim Head OSL Sabeela Siddiki, and the President Habib University Student Government, Ahsan Fayyaz (EE 2025).
The culture of teaching excellence at Habib University was acknowledged through distinguished awards in teaching presented by Associate Dean Teaching & Learning, Muneera Batool. Furthermore, Assistant Deans representing each school, along with Dr. Aamir Hasan, Vice President Academic Affairs presented the prestigious Deans’ medals. These medals were awarded to outstanding students from each program in recognition of their exceptional academic performance.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the President’s Medal for exceptional achievement, awarded to Qaima Hossain, CH 2024. President Rizvi and Yasmeen Bano, Vice President of Student Success, presented the medal to Qaima, who was also honored as the Class Valedictorian. The event concluded with a group photo of the Class of 2024 with University leaders and faculty, followed by a dinner for guests to celebrate the evening’s achievements.
The Awards Night 2024 celebrated the achievements of Habib University’s students and faculty, highlighting the University’s commitment to providing the best undergraduate university experience and preparing students for success in their professional lives.
