Habib Talks session by Junaid Qurashi, President of OPEN Silicon Valley

Habib Talks, an initiative of Habib University, aims to promote critical discourse by inviting experts from various fields to engage in intellectual discussions. The latest session was centered around the topic of Entrepreneurship vs. Employment: How to choose an ideal career path. Scheduled on February 07, 2023, the guest speaker for the session was Mr. Junaid Qurashi, President of the OPEN Silicon Valley. The session was moderated by Dr. Waqar Saleem, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Habib University.

Mr. Qurashi, an accomplished entrepreneur, and business leader, discussed the pros and cons of both entrepreneurship and employment and how to determine the ideal career path. He started off by highlighting the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship and how it requires a great deal of hard work, determination, and risk-taking. However, he also emphasized the potential for personal and professional growth, as well as the ability to have a greater impact on society.

Mr. Qurashi highlighted the importance of understanding one’s strengths, weaknesses, and interests in making the right decision between entrepreneurship and employment.

He also talked about that being an entrepreneur means being the rule maker, while being an employee means being the rule follower. Entrepreneurs are the ones who create and establish the rules of their own businesses, whereas employees must follow the rules set by their employers. This distinction highlights the sharp contrast between the two paths.

Habib Talks is an excellent platform for young professionals and students to engage with experts in various fields and learn about the opportunities and challenges in their chosen careers.

While some individuals prefer the stability and structure that come with being an employee, others thrive on the uncertainty and freedom that come with being an entrepreneur. The choice between the two depends on a person’s own preferences and comfort level with risk. The key is to understand your own tendencies and make a decision that aligns with your goals and aspirations.

Dr. Waqar Saleem, the moderator of the session, asked Mr. Qurashi several questions to delve deeper into the topic and provide more insights for the audience.

At the end of the session, Dr. Aamir Hasan, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Habib University, presented a memento to Mr. Qurashi for his valuable contribution to the Habib Talks initiative. The session was an enormous success, with a packed audience and an engaging discussion.

In conclusion, the session provided valuable insights into the world of entrepreneurship and employment and helped students make informed decisions about their careers. Habib Talks is an excellent platform for young professionals and students to engage with experts in various fields and learn about the opportunities and challenges in their chosen careers. The initiative helps to promote critical discourse and encourages individuals to think deeply about the issues affecting their lives and the world around them.
