Trailblazers in Research
Maha Usmani, Samin Rizwan, Faryal Khan, and Rania Siddiqui: These Computer Science alumni from the Class of 2024 had their paper titled, “Sexism Identification in Tweets using BERT and XLM-RoBERTa,” published at the Conference and Labs of the Evaluation Forum (CLEF) 2024 in Grenoble, France.
Radhika Khatri and Faryal Khan: CS graduates from the Class of 2024, they presented their paper, “Risk Identification and Relapse Prediction in Lung Adenocarcinoma,” at the IEEE UAE-Section-sponsored International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Metaverse, and Cybersecurity (ICAMAC) 2024 in Dubai. Their research focuses on using Support Vector Machines (SVM) to predict relapse in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) by analyzing clinical and genomic features.
Nimra Sohail and Areeb Adnan Khan: These Computer Engineering alumni co-authored a paper titled “Swarm Robots on a Mission: Optimizing Inspections with Fuzzy Logic and Particle Swarm Optimization,” published at the 20th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST) and IEEE Xplore.
Innovators in Industry
Osama Rizwan and Shahzaib Zafar: Electrical Engineering and Social Development and Policy alumni from the Class of 2018, respectively, transformed their project, OneWatt Energy, into a thriving business. They have completed over 700 kWp of solar PV projects, significantly reducing carbon emissions by helping clients transition to cleaner energy solutions.
Burhan Hakimi: An Electrical Engineering graduate from 2020, currently pursuing a master’s in engineering management from St Cloud State University, has completed phase I of his internship at Tesla as a Technical Program Manager and will continue into phase II.
Sumair Nizamuddin: A Social Development and Policy graduate from 2018, has started a new role as Paediatric Impact and Engagement Manager with the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres Network (ECMC) at Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
Maha Shahid: A Communication and Design graduate from 2024, has joined the core team of Breathe Pakistan, a climate change initiative by Dawn Media Group, as Marketing Executive.
