On 21st February 2018, Habib University Foundation formalized an important relationship with an engaged industry partner: TSL Pvt. Ltd. has agreed to support several full undergraduate scholarships for Pakistani students for Habib University students as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Pakistan. A Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony was organized on Habib University’s campus with the CEOs of both institutions.
As part of their CSR activity, numerous local and international enterprises have stepped forward to carry forward the mission of this innovative institution for higher learning. TSL joins Standard Chartered Bank and Jubilee Insurance, who have demonstrated their commitment to CSR initiatives by supporting spaces and undergraduate scholarships for Habib University and its students.
Mr. Parvez Ghias, CEO of Habib University Foundation, welcomed the new members of the community of Mohsineen of Habib University: “It is exemplary when individuals step forward and provide education for the nation. For this institution and its students, this signing significantly takes this important relationship forward. We hope you will frequently get to meet the HU students and join in their progress. One day they will graduate and become game changers for Pakistan’s society. This partnership reflects the essence of corporate social responsibility, ensuring impactful contributions toward education and societal betterment.”
Mr. Ali Naqi Taqi, CEO of TSL, signed the MoU with the words: “I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be part of the amazing work you are doing. After visiting Habib University, I was extremely keen on being part of your journey, and we quickly decided to sponsor students for 4 years. I believe it is our responsibility to help others break the glass ceiling and contribute meaningfully to corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Several students were present at the signing and inspired by their stories of fulfilling a dream by being able to access high-quality education made possible by CSR initiatives like TSL’s scholarship support. Student Zoha reflected: “My experience at HU has been amazing. The HU TOPS 100% scholarships for students from local school examination backgrounds are a game changer to provide both encouragement and equal access irrespective of background. It is a bridge, communicating all sides of our society. My aim was to be a Computer Scientist, and at the same time to shape my personality and hone my presenting skills. At HU, there is no discrimination, and the paths for success are opened up through such impactful CSR practices.”
Habib University has pioneered a model of access to higher education for transformational impact supported by innovative CSR programs. Dr. Shahid Sheikh, Dean of HU’s School of Science and Engineering closed the ceremony by stating that “society must make sure that educational opportunities are available to all citizens regardless of their background and that is what HU is aspiring. Our process is already blind and the goal is to make the question of tuition fees irrelevant. And to make this possible we rely on society to come forward and join the cause, both individuals and companies. Thank you again for the wonderful gift by TSL to Habib University.” In building this community, HU ensures both diversity in the student body as well as societal engagement for relevance and quality of truly higher education.
