Final Year Project

Project Title

Hifazat and the Home: Urban Residential Security in Karachi

Description

This research investigates how residents in Karachi navigate a low-trust urban environment through residential architecture and security practices. The study explores the intersection of physical home fortifications, spatial boundaries, and the socioeconomic vetting of domestic labor. By conducting in-depth community interviews and field research, the project aims to uncover how localized security measures create both physical and social divides within the city. The findings offer crucial insights into urban sociology, community trust, and the dynamics of inequality in megacities. Ultimately, this thesis demonstrates my ability to independently manage complex research projects, analyze human-centric data, and translate on-the-ground urban challenges into clear, actionable insights for the policy and social development sectors.
