Karachi, September 23, 2025: Habib University inaugurated its Mulaqaat series, a new initiative designed to celebrate visionaries who are transforming philanthropy in Pakistan by advancing long-term, sustainable investments in higher education and institution building.
Celebrating a Bold Vision for Education
The Mulaqaat series reflects Habib University’s mission to recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions have redefined the landscape of giving in Pakistan.
The inaugural session, titled “Transforming Futures: Impact and Inclusion in Higher Education,” honored Mr. Shahbaz Yasin Malik, President and CEO of Hilton Pharma and Member of the Board of Directors, Habib University Foundation (HUF).
He was recognized for his enduring partnership and his pivotal role as the founder and continued supporter of HU TOPS (Talent Outreach, Promotion, and Support), Habib University’s flagship scholarship and financial assistance program.

The event opened with a moving video titled “A Promise Made, A Promise Kept: The HU TOPS Story,” highlighting the transformative impact of HU TOPS and its vibrant community of scholars.
The event brought together HU TOPS alumni, current students, faculty, senior leadership, and community leaders, including Mr. Shahbaz Yasin Malik, Mrs. Saima Shahbaz along with their family members, and Mr. Siddique Sheikh, a visionary philanthropist and respected community figure.

HU TOPS: Expanding Access to Quality Education
More than an act of generosity, HU TOPS represents a structural intervention aimed at addressing a critical gap in access to quality higher education for students from local examination boards, who make up nearly 98% of Pakistan’s high school graduates.
Mr. Shahbaz Yasin Malik’s visionary support has transformed hundreds of lives, creating opportunities for talented students to pursue world-class education regardless of financial background. HU TOPS today stands as a model of inclusive philanthropy and long-term institution building.
The milestone event also celebrated the achievements of more than 500 HU TOPS scholars, whose stories of resilience and excellence embody Habib University’s mission.
Habib University remains proud of its HU TOPS scholars and deeply grateful to visionary partners like Mr. Shahbaz Yasin Malik, whose continued support strengthens the university’s commitment to inclusive education.
Stories of Impact: HU TOPS Alumni Panel
A highlight of the event was the HU TOPS Alumni Impact Panel, featuring Samana Butul, Syed Ahsan Ahmad, and Anisa Aisha Ahmed.
Each alumnus shared stories of impact, reflecting on how HU TOPS enabled them to excel academically and contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s progress.
The program also featured a special segment, “In Conversation with Shahbaz Yasin Malik,” moderated by Syed Hammad Mukhtar. When asked, “If you had to describe HU TOPS in one word, what would it be?” Mr. Shahbaz Yasin Malik thought for a moment — then said, “Future and access.”He went on to reflect on his journey and the vision that inspired him to establish HU TOPS in partnership with Habib University.

On behalf of the Habib University community, President Rizvi presented a special memento to Mr. Malik in recognition of his leadership, generosity and his belief in the power of education to transform lives.
