Habib Edges Out Other Science & Engineering Universities to Clinch Top Spots at Math Olympiad


Habib students make a clean sweep of the competition, bagging the top three positions

Karachi: Habib University dominated the recently-held Mohammad Ali Jinnah Inter University Mathematics Olympiad 2015, securing the top slot in all formats of the competition. The contest, held at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University’s (MAJU) Karachi campus, had attracted contenders from across the spectrum of science and engineering colleges in Pakistan. Over 50 students from 11 universities reportedly competed for the top prizes.

Teams from Habib University, MAJU and NED edged out 15 others to secure the first, second and third positions (respectively) in the first round of the competition. Subsequently, Habib University students dominated 40 others to clinch all three top positions in the individuals’ format, which formed the second part of the Olympiad.

Rabia Saleem, Amir Shiraz Gilani and Noorullah Farid of Habib University respectively obtained the first, second and third positions in the competition. They were awarded trophies and other prizes by the chairperson of the Mathematics Association of Pakistan, Abid Sohail, in recognition of their achievement.

The competition had been organized by the computer science department at MAJU, under the supervision of faculty members Ateeque Razak, Dr. Ahmad Ali Shah and Dr. Arif Hussain.
