“In the arena of human life, the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action.” — Aristotle
Recognizing the good qualities and remarkable academic achievements of students hailing from various schools in Karachi, Habib University held its 4th Annual Meritorious Awards on February 3, 2017. The ceremony continued its tradition of rewarding talent and skills by identifying noteworthy students from selected schools who represent a dedication to excellence, a passion for learning, and a deep respect for their surroundings.
Speaking about the inspiration behind organizing Meritorious Awards each year, Director Admissions, Ms. Yasmeen Bano remarked, “I believe that a good university cannot work successfully unless it establishes relationships with the high school community. The University needs to work closely with high schools, learn from each other, share learning resources, identify the talent and help them grow collaboratively. And Meritorious Awards ceremony is just one way of doing it.”
“The real purpose is to create a connection between the University and higher educational institutions and their students so that they can come and visit our campus, explore and become aware of the tremendous opportunities that are available at hand in their very own country,” said Mr. Mohsin Rizvi, Head of Student Marketing and Recruitment, while adding to Ms. Bano’s comments.
Starting off with the presentation of awards to the deserving students, the event’s itinerary included some truly inspiring speeches by the president and some of the faculty members.
Congratulating the high achievers, Mr. Wasif Rizvi, President at Habib University said, “These young minds being present here have achieved an important milestone with distinction in their lives and essentially opened an important set of possibilities for themselves. You all are witnessing the mission statement of Habib University here, which says that your worth is in your YOHSIN. Now one of the first words we have used to translate YOHSIN is excellence so you must have demonstrably shown excellence in at least one aspect of your life, that is, you have done very well in a very serious examination, and therefore, let me say congratulations!”
Attended by scores of students, their parents and faculty members, the event saw participation from various schools in Karachi including Karachi Grammar School, Habib Boys School, Habib Girls Higher Secondary School, Cordoba School, The City School, St. Patrick’s High School, Beaconhouse School System, Cedar College, DA Public School, Dawood Public School, Southshore, Nixor College, Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Bayview, Generation’s School, Foundation Public School, and St. Michael’s Convent School.
Apart from the awards ceremony, the students and parents were also given the opportunity to take a campus tour and a visit to the Admissions Info Zone for their academic queries and concerns.

Sharing feedback, Syed Aizaz Ali Shah, student from The City School – Gulshan Chapter, revealed that he would consider Habib University as his preferred choice of University. “Such events push students to excel more in their future studies and now it is one of my top priorities to be at Habib,” he exclaimed.
Not only did the event turn out to be productive and valuable for the students, the counselors belonging to various schools also commended the efforts and initiatives of HU. Ms. Shehwar Ahmed, Vice Principal at Habib Public School, termed the ceremony as a great gesture for rewarding excellence in academia.
Habib University’s Meritorious Awards has evolved as a noticeable effort in bridging the distance between high schools and the University. Being an open and a collaborative institution, HU strongly believes in the notion of working together, mutual learning and appreciation for each other. Voltaire once said, and we still believe;
“Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.”
